Special Investigation Community Representative
Under certain unfortunate circumstances when a member of the public has been grievously injured or killed by an on-duty law enforcement officer, the officer's agency is required (under WAC 139-12-030) to retain the services of an outside agency to conduct an independent investigation into the incident. The Sheriff's Office partners with other North Central Washington Law Enforcement Partners to form the North Central Washington Special Investigation Unit to perform this function.
An integral part of this independent investigation is transparency of the process. To assist in this effort, the Sheriff's Office enlists members of the public to observe and validate the independent nature of the investigation in accordance with the state requirement.
