Septic Systems (Liquid Waste)
Septic system designs (on-site sewage disposal) are reviewed for
compliance with Okanogan County
Public Health On-Site Sewage Disposal Regulations (pdf),
then inspected and permitted after installation. Permit fees for on-site
sewage disposal systems vary based on the size and type of
system. Okanogan County Public Health enforces liquid waste
regulations for septic systems less than 3,500 gallons per day.
The Department
of Health and the Department of
enforce regulations for larger sewage systems.
Proper maintenance of septic systems is important to avoid
system failure. A fact sheet developed by WSU Cooperative
Extension, Properly Managing Your Septic Tank System, is available
Installers of sewage disposal systems are annually permitted by
Public Health to ensure proper installation, replacement,
alteration, repair or extension of an on-site sewage disposal
system. The permitting process includes an application, payment
of applicable fees and other applicable requirements specific to the property.
Designers of on-site sewage systems must have an On-site
Wastewater Treatment System Designers license from the Department of
Licensing to operate in Washington State.
