Board of Equalization

The Okanogan County Board of Equalization (BOE) is a three member board who hear citizen appeals for values placed upon their property by the Okanogan County Assessor.  The members of this Board are appointed by the Okanogan County Commissioners. The Commissioners attempt to appoint members from different areas of the county with varied interests and backgrounds. The Commissioners are looking for someone from the North County Area such as Oroville or Tonasket to fill a vacant position on this board.

The BOE typically meets on a Thursday or Friday during the months of July and August with only about three or four annual meetings.

Anyone wishing to serve on the board should send a letter stating interest and qualifications to the Okanogan County Commissioners either by email to ljohns@co.okanogan.wa.us or by mail to 123 5th Ave N, Rm 150, Okanogan, WA 98840 by June 16, 2017. . Lodging Tax Advisory Committee

 The Okanogan County Lodging Tax Advisory Committee (LTAC) (members determined by RCW 67.28.1817) shall advise the Board of County Commissioners on the appropriation of the annual investment of lodging tax revenues which the county receives. LTAC membership is designated by commissioner resolution (125-2014) and by individual appointment letters by the Board of County Commissioners. LTAC membership includes three representatives from the hotel industry (collectors), three representatives of agencies that qualify and use lodging tax (receivers), and is Chaired by an elected member of the Board of County Commissioners. One collector and one receiver will be selected from and serve representing one of three Okanogan County Commissioner Districts. Persons who are both collectors and receivers may not serve on the LTAC. The LTAC shall meet as often as necessary, but no less than three times annually.

Currently, there are two open positions; one from District #3 (Oroville Tonasket Area) and the second from District #1 (Omak, Coulee Dam, and Reservation Areas) Both positions must represent a business that collects the Lodging Tax Revenue, for example, representation from the hotel industry, nightly rentals or RV campground who collect the 4% lodging tax.

It shall not be a violation of the requirements of this chapter for a majority of the members of a governing body to travel together or gather for purposes other than a regular meeting or a special meeting as these terms are used in this chapter: PROVIDED, That they take no action as defined in this chapter. RCW 42.30.070.
